WATCH: Senator Dino Melaye slumps after surrendering to police in Abuja
Senator Dino Melaye appeared to slump as he gave himself up for arrest Friday afternoon.
The lawmaker finally surrendered to the police following an 8-day siege at his residence in Maitama, Abuja.
Police allege that Melaye ordered the shooting of one of its operatives last July. Melaye claims innocence.
He was locked behind his gates since police arrived his residence to arrest him days after Christmas.
Upon surrendering to the police today, Melaye appeared to be unhealthy and slumped into the arms of the waiting officers. He was promptly taken to a police clinic in Abuja.
Authorities say he will be returned to detention as soon as he recovers.
Melaye’s trouble with the police began early last year, when he was declared wanted for allegedly sponsoring political thugs in Kogi.
