The teenage girl, a couple of weeks back, died after coming in contact with a live wire partially disconnected by officials of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).

The officials had disconnected the wire because the occupants of the house were yet to pay their electricity bill.

Four EKEDC officials were said to be involved in the incident.

Lagos State police spokesperson, Joe Offor, said efforts to get the officials to relate tier side of the story are yet to yield fruits.

The police seem to suggest they are not interested in compelling EKEDC to produce the officials who are apparently evading interrogation.

“The DPO informed Lagos State of the incident and invited the concerned workers to the station, but they have yet to honour the invitation,” Offor said.

“Whenever our men go to their office, they are always told that the workers have gone out.

“We are still making efforts to ensure that they come to the station,” he said.

Newsroom learnt that the police are yet to compel EKEDC to produce the officials.

“The police are unbelievable,” a resident with insight into the case told Newsroom on Friday.

“Can’t they order EKEDC to produce the officials? What is this?

“There are fears that someone somewhere may be trying to sweep the case under the carpet,” the resident said.

Afusat’s brother, Aminu Musa, initially told local media the manager of the Idi-Araba office of the EKEDC denied his workers where the ones who left the live cable hanging.

EKEDC later admitted its officials were responsible but has so far failed to make those officials available for questioning.

…and it seems the police are not interested in compelling EKEDC to do so.
