U.S. Pledges $27 Million to Nigeria as Aid Package for Sub-Saharan Africa
The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced a $27 million aid allocation for the country, as part of a broader $536 million humanitarian package aimed at Sub-Saharan Africa. This funding showcases the U.S. commitment to addressing critical needs and supporting vulnerable communities across the continent.
“This assistance will make a real difference in the lives of those most in need in Nigeria and across the continent.” Mills said, highlighting the United States’ dedication to tackling pressing issues such as food insecurity and the effects of climate change.

The comprehensive aid package was unveiled by Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, Uzra Zeya, and brings the total U.S. humanitarian assistance for Sub-Saharan Africa in Fiscal Year 2024 to nearly $3.7 billion. This substantial investment aims to address the urgent needs of refugees, asylum seekers, internally displaced persons, and other populations affected by conflict.
The $27 million designated for Nigeria will be managed by the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, along with USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance. The funds will focus on alleviating crises in the Sahel and supporting efforts for voluntary returns and refugee integration.
Mills reaffirmed the U.S.’s solidarity with Nigeria, stating, “We stand with Nigeria in its efforts to support vulnerable populations and enhance resilience against food insecurity and climate change.”
