Ukraine agrees to Trump’s 30-Day cease-fire proposal as the US resumes military assistance

Ukraine has signaled its willingness to accept the Trump administration’s 30-day cease-fire proposal, a decision that follows high-level diplomatic talks in Saudi Arabia.

The discussions, held in Jeddah on Tuesday, also resulted in the United States lifting its pause on intelligence sharing with Kyiv and resuming military assistance to Ukraine.

The renewed push for a temporary cease-fire marks a potential breakthrough in negotiations that had stalled after a tense meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House.

Following that confrontation, the Trump administration had suspended military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, further complicating the country’s defense efforts against Russia.

Tuesday’s joint statement, released after hours of deliberations, emphasized that any cease-fire would still require Russia’s approval. However, Moscow has yet to comment on the proposal, and no Russian officials were present at the Jeddah talks.

“Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day cease-fire if Russia did the same,” the statement read. It further added, “The United States will communicate to Russia that Russian reciprocity is the key to achieving peace.”

The announcement came just hours after Russian officials accused Ukraine of launching the largest drone attack on Moscow since the war began, raising concerns over escalating tensions.

At the conclusion of the Jeddah meetings, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio underscored the importance of Russia’s response to the cease-fire proposal.

“We’ll take this offer now to the Russians, and we hope that they’ll say yes, that they’ll say yes to peace,” Rubio stated. “The ball is now in their court.”

Despite Washington’s diplomatic efforts, there has been no indication that Russia will agree to the proposed monthlong cease-fire. As negotiations continue, all eyes remain on Moscow’s next move in the ongoing conflict.
