UK Govt Ups Proof of Funds To Monthly £1,483 For Foreign Students

UK Increases Proof of Funds for Foreign Students

The United Kingdom (UK) government has substantially increased the proof of funds amount required for foreign nationals seeking education in the country in new financial rules adopted.

These changes were announced by the Home Office.

Foreign students must now show evidence of having £1,483 per month, funds designed to cater for their living expenses.

Those studying outside London, the Home Office say, must possess £1,136 per month.

This is stark contract to the former rates of £1,334 for London and £1,023 for other UK cities.

The new requirements mean that foreign students pursuing courses for the duration of nine months plus must have at least £13,348 savings in order to apply for a visa.

The increment is in line with the present cost of living in the UK, the Home Office explains.

The new financial requirements will be effected for students arriving the country on or after January 2, 2025.

In the event the student has already made deposit payment for accommodation in the UK, this amount can be deducted from the total funds required to present.

The Home Office noted that inflation and increases in domestic maintenance loans will continue influencing shifts in financial requirements demanded.
