Governor Uba Sani Relaxes 24-Hour Curfew In Kaduna and Zaria Environs
Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has announced the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on Kaduna and Zaria towns and their environs on Monday, August 4, 2024. The decision was made after a thorough review of the security situation by the Kaduna State Security Council.
According to Samuel Aruwan, Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Kaduna State, “The curfew will now be in effect from 6 pm to 8 am daily.”
“This implies that citizens may move freely and carry out their legitimate activities between 8 am and 6 pm, and will revert to the curfew from 6 pm to 8 am,” the statement said.
Neusroom reported that the State Governor had imposed a 24-hour curfew after residents trooped out en masse for the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest despite President Bola Tinubu’s speech on the demonstration on Sunday.
The statement also reiterated Kaduna State Security Council’s commitment to peace and security in the state, stating that it “will continue to take all steps deemed necessary for their preservation.”
The council also warned that security forces will “vigorously enforce the curfew from 6 pm to 8 am and will be decisive in confronting actions which may lead to a breakdown of law and order during periods of movement as well as restriction.”
The relaxed curfew takes effect from Thursday, August 8, 2024.
