Trump Hopes Putin Will Seek Peace in Ukraine but Warns He Might Refuse
U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he hopes Russian President Vladimir Putin will move toward ending the war in Ukraine but admitted Putin might refuse a deal, calling that a “rough situation” for the Kremlin leader. Speaking on Fox News’ Fox & Friends, Trump said Putin’s intentions should become clearer in the next few weeks.
Trump reiterated that the U.S. will not send troops to Ukraine and gave no details about the security guarantees he has promised Kyiv as part of any peace settlement. He expressed optimism, saying, “I think Putin is tired of it. I think they’re all tired of it, but you never know.”
The comments came after a high-profile summit at the White House on Monday, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met with Trump and leaders from Germany, France, and Britain. Zelenskiy called the talks a “major step forward” and indicated plans for a trilateral meeting with Putin and Trump.
