Troops Seize Suspected Terrorist Supplies in Yobe
Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North-East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have intercepted a major consignment of items believed to be intended for terrorist groups in Yobe State.
Theatre Command disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the operation, carried out under Operation Desert Sanity IV, followed credible intelligence and led to multiple seizures on September 16.
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, troops stopped a red 14-tyre trailer along the Nguru–Gashua road at about 7:40 a.m. The vehicle was later moved to a secured location where, during an inspection around 9:00 p.m., soldiers uncovered 700 bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer, 27 cartons of assorted drugs, and nine cartons of normal saline solution hidden beneath bundles of fabric. The fertilizer is a key ingredient in the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The consignment was reportedly being moved to Niger Republic.
Later the same day, at about 10:30 a.m., troops also intercepted two Sharon vehicles and another trailer loaded with bulk fabric and solar panels. Security sources said the fabric was intended for sewing uniforms for insurgent fighters.
“All drivers, motor boys, and the recovered items are in custody, pending further investigation and the arrest of identified consignees and consignors,” the command said.
Residents have been urged to continue providing timely intelligence to aid security forces in cutting off supply lines to insurgent groups. The military high command commended the troops for their efforts, stressing its commitment to dismantling logistics chains that fuel violence in the north-east.
