Tragic! 8 returnees from Spain die in accident in Ogun
No fewer than eight persons fell victims to a tragic accident opposite the Wichtech Roofing and Pipes on Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Tuesday.
The victims, comprising five males and three females, were said to be travelling from Lagos to Benin in a white Toyota Hiace bus when a reckless attempt to overtake a Mack truck resulted in the accident.
Reports say the victims only just arrived from Spain and were on their way for an engagement in Benin.
Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps spokesperson, Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, stated that the accident was caused by speeding and wrongful overtaking on the part of the bus driver.
Akinbiyi said seven of the victims died at the accident scene while one other died later.
Their remains have been deposited at the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu where two others rescued alive, were also receiving treatment.
