Tinubu to Visit Benue After 200 People Were Massacred in Saturday’s Attack
President Bola Tinubu will visit Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, following the killing of over 200 people in coordinated attacks across several communities last Saturday.
The Presidency announced on Monday that Tinubu has postponed his official trip to Kaduna to personally assess the scale of violence in Benue and hold direct talks with stakeholders.
“The President’s visit aims to assess firsthand the recurring crisis that has claimed numerous lives and caused significant destruction,” the statement read.
While in Benue, Tinubu is expected to meet with traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, community elders, and youth groups. He will also chair a town hall meeting aimed at finding lasting peace in the region, which has suffered a string of deadly attacks blamed on armed militias.
Already, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, and heads of intelligence agencies have been deployed to Benue ahead of the visit. Senate and House Defence Committee chairmen are also part of the team.
President Tinubu has previously condemned the violence in Benue and urged citizens to “embrace peace, love, and mutual understanding.” He extended his condolences to families of victims and others affected by the crisis.
The President was originally scheduled to visit Kaduna on Wednesday to commission state projects. That visit will now take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
