JUST IN: Tinubu to miss 79th UNGA as Shettima leads Nigerian delegation to New York
Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu will not be attending the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York this year.
The announcement was made on Thursday, September 19, by Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy.
In place of Tinubu’s absence, Vice President Kashim Shettima has been tasked with leading Nigeria’s delegation at the high-profile gathering.

The decision highlights Shettima’s crucial role in representing Nigeria on the international stage as global leaders convene to address pressing issues.
The UNGA, which serves as a platform for dialogue among member nations, is expected to draw important attention this year.

With Nigeria’s absence at the helm, all eyes will be on Vice President Shettima as he steps into this pivotal role.
