Tinubu Hosts Indian PM Narendra Modi at Aso Rock Villa
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was formally received by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday,November 17, marking the beginning of a landmark visit to deepen bilateral ties between the two nations.

Modi, who arrived in Abuja on Saturday evening, was welcomed with full honors at the Villa’s Forecourt at approximately 10:20 AM. The ceremonial welcome included a rendition of the Indian national anthem, followed by the Nigerian national anthem, as a Brigade of Guards mounted a formal Guard of Honour. The Prime Minister was then led to inspect the mounted parade, which concluded with a traditional 21-gun salute.

Following the military honors, President Tinubu escorted Prime Minister Modi into his office for a closed-door meeting, where the two leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of issues aimed at bolstering Nigeria-India relations.

The visit is expected to be a significant one, with both leaders set to sign multiple bilateral agreements and exchange Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at enhancing cooperation in key sectors, including trade, technology, energy, and security.

The Presidency confirmed that the talks would focus on strengthening strategic collaboration between the two countries, stating, “President Tinubu and Prime Minister Modi will further enhance Nigeria’s and India’s ties during their bilateral discussions. Both leaders will exchange signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) to boost collaboration in critical sectors.”
This is the first visit to Nigeria by an Indian prime minister since 2007, when Dr. Manmohan Singh’s state visit led to the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two nations.
