“It’s all lies. Tinubu Has Not Ordered Yemi Cardoso To resign” – Bayo Onanuga
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, has refuted a media report claiming that Yemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), had been ordered by the President to resign from his position.
Retweeting a story titled ‘President Tinubu Orders CBN Gov, Cardoso to Resign Over Naira Steep Fall,’ published by Inside Business, Onanuga wrote:
“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.”
Inside Business, in their story published on Tuesday, September 17, claimed that the President issued the order before his trip to China.
“The President is worried about the exchange rate and angry that Cardoso, in one year in office, could not revive the Naira to between N700 and N900, as he promised. The President waited for him to fulfill his promise by May 29, June 29, and July 29 before he grew tired of waiting in August when he invited him to submit his resignation,” the newspaper quoted an anonymous source.
This report comes amid speculation of a major reshuffling within President Tinubu’s cabinet.
Between late August and early September, there have been three major changes in Tinubu’s administration.
On September 7, Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, announced that he was taking an indefinite leave of absence to address what he described as an urgent medical issue affecting his immediate family.
His leave followed the dismissal of Yusuf Bichi, the Director-General of the Directorate of State Services (DSS), and the resignation of Ahmed Abubakar, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
