Tinubu condemns abduction of Kebbi schoolgirls, Gen Uba’s death
President Bola Tinubu has condemned the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba alongside several soldiers during a military operation in Borno.
In a statement issued via his official X handle on Wednesday, Tinubu expressed grief over the two incidents, describing them as heartbreaking tragedies.
“I am heartbroken by the abduction of our daughters in Kebbi and the painful loss of Brigadier General Musa Uba and the brave soldiers who fell in Borno. Their families and the families of the kidnapped schoolgirls are in my prayers,” he wrote.
The President, who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, said he was deeply saddened by the death of the military personnel who died in active service, adding that he prayed for strength and comfort for their families.
Tinubu also lamented the interruption of the education of the abducted girls, describing the attackers as “heartless terrorists.” He directed security agencies to act swiftly and ensure the safe rescue of the students.
“I have directed the security agencies to act swiftly and bring the girls back to Kebbi State,” he stated.
According to him, the government is fully aware of a recent rise in extremist violence across some parts of the country. He assured that law enforcement agencies have been instructed to respond with “urgency, clarity, and decisive action.”
Tinubu urged residents to support security operations by providing reliable information, stressing that community cooperation is essential in the fight against terrorism.
“Our forces need the full cooperation of every community. Sharing information can save lives and protect our children,” he said.
The President further warned that the Nigerian government will not hesitate to deal decisively with those who threaten national security.
“Those who threaten the safety of our citizens will face the full weight of the Nigerian state,” he warned.
