Hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the two-day summit, themed “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” aims to address critical global challenges.

Discussions will revolve around economic development, social equity, environmental sustainability, and reforms in global governance. The summit will also delve into pressing geopolitical issues, including the Israel-Hamas war and increasing tensions between the United States and China.

Brazil, which assumed the G20 presidency in December 2023, has prioritized eradicating hunger, poverty, and inequality. The country’s proposals aim to eliminate extreme poverty by 2030, with food security as a cornerstone.

The G20, comprising 19 member countries, the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU), represents the world’s largest economies, including the United States, China, India, and South Africa. Although Nigeria was invited, the country is not a member of the group.

By participating in the summit, Nigeria aims to leverage global cooperation to address domestic challenges and enhance its role in international decision-making on economic and environmental reforms.
