Tinubu Addresses G20, Calls for Hunger Eradication Agenda
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed world leaders at the G20 Summit in Brazil, endorsing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s proposal for a Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. Tinubu described the initiative as a “bold and necessary step” to tackle one of humanity’s greatest challenges.
“This initiative aligns with my administration’s renewed hope agenda and our commitment to eradicating poverty and fostering sustainable development,” he stated.
Tinubu highlighted the Global Alliance as a platform uniting governments, international organisations, and civil society to address the structural causes of hunger and poverty.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, Tinubu said, “Nigeria is ready to leverage international cooperation to achieve zero hunger and poverty eradication while improving citizens’ lives.”
The President also called for urgent reforms in global governance and taxation.
“The UN Security Council must reflect global diversity, and Nigeria stands ready to represent Africa. We must also reform global taxation to bridge the North-South divide and create a fairer global financial system,” Tinubu emphasised.

On the sidelines of the summit, Tinubu met with Vietnam’s President, His Excellency Lương Cường, to discuss bilateral cooperation. Tinubu described the meeting as “productive,” saying, “We highlighted our shared commitment to cultivating mutually beneficial relations for the advancement of both countries.”

The G20 Summit offered Nigeria a platform to champion critical issues, including hunger eradication, global equity, and international collaboration, in pursuit of sustainable development.
