TIME Honors Trump as 2024 Person of the Year Following Presidential Win
President-elect Donald Trump has been named TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2024.
The announcement, made on Thursday, December 12, by TIME’s Editor-in-Chief, Sam Jacobs, praised Trump “for marshalling a comeback of historic proportions, for driving a once-in-a-generation political realignment, for reshaping the American presidency, and altering America’s role in the world.”
Trump was first named Person of the Year by the magazine in 2016 following his dramatic rise to the forefront of American politics and his victory in the Presidential election.
According to the magazine, while choosing the Person of the Year is often a difficult task, this year’s choice was an easy one, given Trump’s historic and dramatic return to the White House, where he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the November 5 polls.
“For 97 years, the editors of TIME have been picking the Person of the Year: the individual who, for better or for worse, did the most to shape the world and the headlines over the past 12 months. In many years, that choice is a difficult one. In 2024, it was not,” the magazine explained in their rationale for Trump’s selection.

Come January 20, 2025, Trump will once again be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States of America, underscoring the unprecedented year he has had and the significant impact of his influence, not just in America, but across the globe.
“Now we watch as members of Congress, international institutions, and global leaders once again align themselves with his whims. The carousel of Trumpworld characters spins anew. This time, we think we know what to expect,” TIME wrote.
