Three APC supporters perish in car crash enroute campaign rally in Lagos

The accident took place at noon on Monday, and three people died on the spot, with seven others sustaining injuries.

A fatal car crash involving a SUV conveying APC supporters to a campaign rally in Festac, around Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos has claimed the lives of at least three people with others seriously injured.

The victims were revealed to be among the campaign team of Lagos West Senatorial candidate of the party, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, who is popularly known as Yayi.

Witnesses report that the crash occurred as a result over-speeding as the car somersaulted many time while it hastened to meet up with the rest of the campaign entourage.

The state police spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti confirmed the incident and disclosed that the accident took place at noon on Monday, and three people died on the spot, with seven others sustaining injuries.

“The injured persons were taken to the Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area hospital for treatment, while the corpses were deposited in the Isolo General Hospital mortuary. The vehicle has been recovered and taken to the station,” he said.

The deceased were identified as one Alex, Shettima Bulus and Irikefe Evwibovwe; while those seriously injured include Wasiu Sodiq, Chinelo Ofegbu, Adebajo Adeleke, Arowolo Ogundairo, Jamiu Ajiboluwa, Fatope Saheed, and Adio Kazeem.

Following the incident, Senator Adeola rounded off his engagement after observing a minute silence for the victims. He sent out condolence to the family of the deceased.
