The PDP Has Collapsed and Stands Rejected — APC Fires Back at PDP Governors Over 2027 Defeat Claims

The All-Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed recent remarks by governors elected under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), calling their prediction of APC’s defeat in the 2027 general elections “laughable” and “delusional.”

In a strongly worded statement released Monday, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the opposition governors were “projecting their own doomed fate” and trying to mislead Nigerians with baseless claims.

The pushback comes after PDP governors met in Zamfara on August 23 and issued a communique describing the APC as “a party without vision or direction” that is heading for imminent rejection at the polls.

But Morka wasn’t having it. “The PDP has since collapsed and stands rejected by Nigerians,” he declared. “Rather than focus on rescuing their terminally ill party, the governors are wasting time hurling baseless accusations against the APC.”

He added that it was “infantile and irresponsible” for PDP leaders to celebrate democracy only when they win elections and to decry it when they lose, accusing them of trying to manipulate public perception.

According to Morka, the APC’s recent victories in by-elections — including wins in Zamfara, Adamawa, and Kano, all opposition-led states — are evidence that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are resonating with the electorate. “These inept governors are in no position to dictate to Nigerians how to vote in 2027,” Morka said, urging the PDP to “eat the humble pie” and acknowledge its loss of relevance.

Morka also criticised the PDP for failing to offer credible policies over the last three election cycles, arguing that repeated defeats at the polls prove Nigerians have moved on. “Wallowing in denial of the party’s expired political vitality and relevance is a reckless betrayal by PDP Governors of their highly disillusioned members,” he stated.

He added that the PDP governors’ focus on attacking the APC, rather than presenting a clear policy direction, shows a lack of seriousness in opposition leadership.

In defending the Tinubu administration, Morka pointed to rising federal allocations, stating that over N2 trillion was shared among states by July 2025 — the highest in Nigeria’s history. He accused PDP governors of failing to translate those resources into meaningful development in their states. “They are among the biggest beneficiaries of Tinubu’s economic reforms, yet they continue to fail their citizens,” Morka said.

He also warned that Nigeria would not return to the “dark days of PDP’s misrule,” when some states struggled to pay workers’ salaries.

Morka concluded by urging Nigerians to ignore what he described as the PDP’s “empty rhetoric” and continue to support the APC and the Tinubu administration. “Nigerians know the party that is working for their future, and they will not be deceived by opposition leaders who cannot manage their own states,” he said.
