Thailand police arrest Nigerian drug baron after hot chase

An alleged Nigerian drug baron, Chinedu Victor Okeke, reportedly gave the Thailand police a hard time at the weekend, as he made the law enforcers sweat for their pay before he was arrested.

Okeke was said to have jumped out of the window of his house and climbed over a fence in an attempt to evade police and soldiers in a nearby temple in Bophut.

The officers, however, managed to catch up with him and a conducted a search at his apartment, which revealed he had more than 280 grams of cocaine stashed at various points around the property.

Chinedu, who was found out to have overstayed his visa, admitted selling cocaine to both Thai and foreign tourists on Koh Samui for between 1,000 and 18,000 baht.

The 45-year-old suspect’s arrest is the latest in an ongoing battle against foreigners who are flooding the popular tourist destination with cocaine and other drugs.

Police said there has been an increase in foreigners going to Koh Samui for the purpose of selling drugs.
