A massive bomb attack killed 44 people in the Kurdish-majority city of Qamishli in northeastern Syria on Wednesday, Syrian state television reports.

The bomb blast, it appears, caused a gas tank to explode giving impressions that it was a twin bomb attack.

No fewer than 170 people, AFP reports, were injured in the blast.
