Stop this ATM habit or we’re all going to die!

In case you don’t know, the world is going to end very soon and we humans will be the first creatures to be wiped out.
No, we’re not talking religion stuff here. Scientists warn that our planet has entered another extinction phase and that we’re “doomed.” There have been five previous such phases and it was during the last one that dinosaurs were wiped out.
Okay…the current phase has been aggravated by human action at polluting and mismanaging the planet, scientists say.
Such actions include environmental degradation, and that’s what we’re talking about here.
You, or someone very close to (or far away from you), have been degrading the environment; and you do this every time you use the ATM in a particular fashion.
An environmental apologist and recycling “freak” told Newsroom, Wednesday, he wondered why some of us tell the ATM to print a receipt of our transaction only to dispose the printed slip immediately afterwards…and inappropriately.
“The real problem is that banks would even use these slips which are made from trees which are got from felling trees,” Media Director of environmental firm Wecyclers, Oke Umurhohwo, cried to Newsroom.
“The depletion of trees is contributing to global warming and increasing ocean levels across the globe.
“It is even very sad that these paper slips are indiscriminately dumped by bank customers. Some of them are dumped in gutters. They accumulate and combine with other waste to block drainage leading to flooding and water stagnation.
“You know mosquitoes breed well in stagnant water. So we are inflicting ourselves with malaria.”
Umurhohwo, who had a stint with Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Environment, said the indiscriminate disposal of ATM receipts also lead to wastage of state resources and give road cleaners unnecessary stress.
“The government has to pay street sweepers to sweep these slips and other waste that have been dumped indiscriminately,” he said.
He also urged banks to educate their customers on the proper use of waste baskets placed around ATMs.
So, please…you may not be interested in saving the planet but you should feel some empathy for the great people who labour to keep the streets clean.
Besides, there’s austerity almost everywhere. Don’t make the government, all in the name of cleaning your mess, spend more than it should.
Let’s stop dumping those ATM slips anyhow…let’s keep the planet clean while we wait for the sixth extinction phase to come and wipe us out. Thank you.
