Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Tinubu Discuss Enhanced Trade Partnership
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, in a phone conversation on Wednesday, July 31, discussed opportunities to enhance the trade partnership between the two nations.
Starmer, whose Labour Party secured a landslide victory in the UK’s July 5 parliamentary election, became the country’s newest Prime Minister and has since formed a government.
While President Tinubu congratulated Prime Minister Starmer on his recent election victory, Starmer commended President Tinubu as Nigeria marks twenty-five years of unbroken democracy, highlighting the milestone as a significant achievement.
The Prime Minister reflected on the important relationship between the UK and Nigeria, grounded in cooperation on trade and security as Commonwealth partners, with long-standing ties between the peoples of both countries.
Both leaders welcomed this moment as an opportunity to reset and strengthen the bilateral relationship. They emphasized working closely together to drive economic growth and prosperity through the Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership.
