Sources say Ajimobi has passed on aged 70, a week after controversial death report
The immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has reportedly passed on aged 70.
Although Newsroom could not confirm when the ex-governor died, a Deputy Editor at ThisDay newspaper Olaleye Olawale confirmed Ajimobi’s death.
Multiple reports of his death went viral last Thursday but was quickly debunked by his media aide, Bolaji Tunji, who claimed his principal was alive.
He wrote on Facebook: “Kindly disregard all the rumours, just rumours. In all we remain prayerful.”
The report created controversy on the internet as many of his followers and aides took to social media to attack investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo who was one of the first sets of people to tweet about Ajimobi’s death.
Despite the backlashes, Soyombo had said he is standing by his story because his source has never failed him in six years.
His family is yet to announce his death and none of the former governor’s aides could be reached for confirmation.
Babajide Fadoju, his former aide on digital media, did not respond to messages sent to him.
Ajimobi was recently announced Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the National Working Committee of the party dissolved the National Executive Council under his leadership during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja today.
