It’s six years today since Michael “King of Pop” Jackson passed on. Here are pictures of the legend that even his family had not seen…reportedly.

“Even the Jacksons have never seen these photos,” said Alix Dejean, the Haitian-born photographer who took the shots about three decades ago, told TIME.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. Called the King of Pop, his contributions to music and dance, along with his publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.

On June 25, 2009, Jackson died while lying in his bed at his rented mansion at 100 North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills district of Los Angeles in the US.

After his death, MJ, as Jackson is also called, became the best-selling albums artist of 2009. He sold over 8.2 million albums in the United States, and a total of 35 million albums worldwide, in the 12 months that followed his death..
