VP Shettima’s Mother-in-Law Passes Away at 69
Hajiya Maryam Abubakar Albishir, the mother-in-law of Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, has passed away in Kano at the age of 69 after a prolonged illness. The late Hajiya Maryam was the mother of the Vice President’s wife, Hajiya Nana Shettima.
According to a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Hajiya Maryam passed away on the evening of Sunday, June 23, 2024, and will be laid to rest on Monday afternoon in Kano, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
The late Hajiya Maryam was described as an exemplary and kind-hearted mother, a devoted Muslim, and a respected figure in her community. She was known for her wisdom, compassion, and dedication to charitable causes.
“Many remember her as a source of guidance and support, both within her family and in the wider community in Kano,” the statement read.
In this time of mourning, the nation extends its heartfelt condolences to Vice President Kashim Shettima, Hajiya Nana Shettima, and their entire family.
“The nation mourns the loss of this remarkable woman, and we pray that her soul rests in peace,” said Stanley Nkwocha. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Shettima family, and we ask that God grant them the strength and fortitude to bear this loss.”
