Sex Scandal: US envoy missing at sexual misconduct hearing

Investigations into the allegations of sexual misconduct levied against three Nigerian lawmakers have been stalled after the United States ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwhistle failed to appear before the investigating panel on Thursday.

Entwistle had written the Speaker of the lower chambers alleging that three of a 10-man delegation to an event in the United States committed sexual related offences during their state in the country.

In the letter, the envoy wrote that Mohammed Garba Gololo “allegedly grabbed a housekeeper in his hotel room and solicited her for sex”, while Mark Terseer Gbillah and Samuel Ikon “allegedly requested hotel parking attendants assist them to solicit prostitutes”.

All three vehemently denied the allegations while threatening to sue to clear their names.

In a form of response, Entwhistle reportedly said he had evidence to support his claim.

But the envoy has failed to take the chance to supply the much needed evidence.

Entwhistle is yet to give any reason for failing to appear before the panel of lawmakers.

The panel postponed the hearing to 20 July following Mr Entwhistle’s failure to attend, House of Representatives spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdaz, said..
