SERAP Calls on Tinubu to Publish Assets, Encourages Shettima and Other Officials to Follow His Lead
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) is calling on President Bola Tinubu to set a strong example of transparency by directing the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to publish his declared assets. The organization also urged the President to encourage Vice-President Kashim Shettima, ministers, governors, and other government officials to follow suit.
In a statement released on December 28, 2024, SERAP praised Tinubu for considering the move after his recent comment during his first Presidential Media Chat, where he suggested that he might request the CCB to release his assets. The group welcomed this decision, seeing it as a positive step toward public accountability.

However, SERAP stressed that the President should act quickly. “Immediate action to publish your assets and encourage others to do the same will build public trust and promote transparency,” the organization said.
The group also highlighted the dangers of secrecy surrounding asset declarations, which they argue enables corruption within government. Additionally, SERAP urged Tinubu to enforce the Supreme Court’s 2024 ruling barring governors from controlling local government funds, a ruling that has reportedly been ignored in some states.
“Corruption undermines democracy and economic progress,” SERAP concluded, urging President Tinubu to lead by example in promoting a culture of transparency and accountability across the country.
