Senate Unseals Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Office Months After Suspension

The Nigerian Senate has unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, after she was suspended from legislative activities for over six months.

The office, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate wing at the National Assembly, had been locked since March 6, 2025, when the senator was suspended from the red chamber.

In a video shared on Tuesday, Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director in the office of the Sergeant-at-Arms, was seen removing the red seal from the office door.

“I, Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, hereby unseal the office. The office is hereby unsealed. Thank you,” he said in the 25-second clip.

While the physical seal has been lifted, it remains unclear whether Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has been formally granted access to the office or the broader National Assembly complex. As of now, the Senate has not issued any resolution formally reinstating her.

Despite the unsealing, the management of the National Assembly maintains that the senator cannot resume official duties without a new resolution from the Senate or a clear directive from the courts.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension earlier this year had sparked debates around parliamentary procedure and due process, with ongoing legal and political dimensions still unresolved.
