Senate moves to prevent ASUU’s planned strike

For what seems like the first time in a very long time, the Nigerian Senate has quickly moved to resolve – and possibly prevent – the warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that has been planned to commence on Wednesday.

ASUU announced on Monday that it will embark on a nationwide strike on the grounds that the Federal Government is yet to implement the agreement between both parties years ago.

According to PUNCH, Lawmakers in Abuja deliberated on the impending strike during Tuesday’s plenary, clamouring for a quick resolution of the issues.

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, was specifically urged by other members of the house to intervene in the matter by calling both parties for dialogue.
