The ongoing trial of Nigeria’s Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki over an alleged false assets declaration has been postponed till January 2017, after a successful cross-examination of the prosecution witness.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Mr Danladi Umar made the announcement on Tuesday, November 8, following the completion of Mr Micheal Wetkas’ cross-examination, Channels TV reports.

Wetkas had said on Monday that the Senate President received salaries four years after he left the Kwara State Government House as governor, even though he was also receiving salaries as a Senator. Wetkas maintained the stance at Tuesday’s hearing, responding to the Counsel to the Senate President, Mr Paul Usoro.

The prosecutor, Mr Umar Ibrahim, who stood in for the lead prosecutor Mr Rotimi Jacobs, made a request for an adjournment in preparation for a re-examination but Danladi Umar ruled out any possibility of a 2016 hearing.
