Saraki: FG’s caterogization of IPOB as a ‘terrorist organization’ unconstitutional

The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has joined other Nigerians like the Ijaw Youth council, Gov Ayo Fayose, Mr Mike Ozekheme and others in faulting the declaration of IPOB as a terrorist organisation by the military; saying it was “unconstitutional and does not follow due process.

Saraki clearly stated that Nigeria laws made the provisions for taking such actions clear that before such action can be taken, due process must be followed, and that if such is not the case as ensued in the recent IPOB, South East Governors and  Nigerian Army  such declaration cannot have effect.

He disclosed that President  Buhari will have to do the needful by initiating the right process; as it would go a long way in demonstrating to the world at large that Nigeria is a country that operates by laid down process under every circumstance. “So, those who have been hammering on this point should maintain their cool” He said

Dr Bukola Saraki, said the Senate would soon meet with security chiefs over military action against members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

He said the meeting would chart a path for resolution of contentious issues causing tension in the South-East and also address the skirmishes in Plateau and other states.

However, many has claimed that the proscription was  targeted to silence right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association, claiming that “herdsmen that have massacred thousands of unarmed Nigerians across the country have not been declared terrorists.
