Russian Engineer indicted for espionage after spying for Ukraine

The Russian-Ukraine war which has been brewing since 2014 became full fledged after Russia officially invaded Ukraine in 24 February 2022.

Since then, multiple casualties have been recorded at an alarming rate, with Ukraine having the highest death toll, as per reports.

With security measures at its highest in the wake of war, Russia has apprehended and sentenced an Engineer to 16 years imprisonment for allegedly leaking sensitive military information to Ukraine.

Daniel Mukhametov, 32 works as an engineer for the biggest tank manufacturers in the world, Uralvagonzavod located in Russia, alongside his wife were charged with high treason by a regional court in Sverdlovsk on Tuesday.

After being arrested by Russian FSB special forces in 2023, Daniel Mukhametov “partially admitted his guilt” and was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

According to the court, the couple were responsible for “giving Ukrainian special services military and technical information”.

His wife, Viktoria Mukhametova, was sentenced in early October to 12.5 years in prison on the same charges.
