Romance, Culture and History Collide as Oba Esugbayi Takes Centre Stage

An exciting new stage production that takes a creative look at our history, exploring themes around inter-ethnic love and the level of sacrifice in a relationship is set to debut this festive season.

Oba Esugbayi tells a story of romance, tribulation and emancipation that bind together two very different families. The play is set in the multicultural context of the rich heritage of Lagos and the colourful traditions of the Efik people of Cross River.

The show is produced by Joseph Edgar, an investment banker and theatre producer, whose Duke of Shomolu Productions has created captivating plays with strong historical leanings in a strong bid to “tell our story through performance.”

The show, which runs from the 23rd to 26th of December at the Agip Recital Hall, MUSON Centre in Lagos, will feature veteran actors as well as upcoming stars, including Femi Branch,  who plays Oba Esugbayi, and the queen of Nigerian stage, Yinka Davies.
