Rivers Assembly Calls for DSS Probe into Chief Judge’s Alleged Age Falsification
The Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate Simeon Amadi, the Chief Judge of the state, over allegations of age falsification.
During a heated plenary session on Thursday, the lawmakers resolved to formally petition the DSS, urging the agency to probe claims that Amadi had manipulated his birth records in official civil service documents.
The motion, spearheaded by House Leader Major Jack, was supported by documents allegedly proving the chief judge had altered his age. Lawmakers described the accusation as a “serious offense” that warranted thorough scrutiny by security agencies.
According to the assembly, the findings from the DSS probe will be forwarded to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for further action.
While addressing the legislature, Speaker Amaewhule noted that the assembly has the constitutional power to investigate the matter but claimed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had barred heads of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) from appearing before the House.
Following a voice vote initiated by Amaewhule, the motion to involve the DSS was overwhelmingly passed.
The call for an investigation comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, fueled by the ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The feud has deeply polarized the state legislature, with rival factions vying for control. As the crisis escalates, the latest move by the assembly could further inflame political hostilities in the oil-rich state.
