Renowned Nigerian novelist, Buchi Emecheta has died aged 72.
Emecheta died in her home in London, BBC reports.
The author of more than 20 books – including ‘The Joys of Motherhood’, ‘Second-Class Citizen’, ‘The Bride Price’, ‘The Slave Girl’ and many others – Emecheta received many literary awards.
Though she was popular for her books on feminism, she never described herself as one.
Emecheta was said to have once described her stories as “stories of the world…[where]… women face the universal problems of poverty and oppression, and the longer they stay, no matter where they have come from originally, the more the problems become identical.”
