President Tinubu to Reshuffle Cabinet
Just over a year after appointing his cabinet members, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, revealed that President Bola Tinubu has “expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet.”
“I don’t know whether he wants to do it before October 1, but he will surely do it. That is what I will say. But he has not given us any timeline,” Onanuga added.
The official indication of the potential sacking of some cabinet members follows a Neusroom report earlier this month, hinting that the President might remove underperforming ministers and aides.
While the reason for the shake-up was not clear at the time, Onanuga claimed that the President feels his milestones and achievements are not being “actively” communicated to Nigerians, leading to widespread dissatisfaction across the country.
According to Onanuga, Tinubu urged his ministers to “go out there and publicize the administration’s successes.”
“Many Nigerians believe the President isn’t doing much, while the government is actually making significant strides,” Onanuga added.
Tinubu’s reshuffling comes after three major changes in his administration between August and early September.
On September 7, Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, announced that he was taking an indefinite leave of absence to address what he described as an urgent medical issue affecting his immediate family.
Ngelale’s leave followed the dismissal of Yusuf Bichi, the Director-General of the Directorate of State Services (DSS), and the resignation of Ahmed Abubakar, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).
