Polling units deserted as INEC cancels election

Several polling units across the country which were expected to be crowded by voters on Saturday have been deserted after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC cancelled the election.

Many voters have expressed disappointment on the issue and some of them have threatened to boycott the election on the new date, February 23.

If this trend becomes the order of the day, the action will further reduce the voter turnout that was pegged at 39 percent against the 47 percent turnout in 2015.

Although the general election was also shifted from the initial date in 2015, it wasn’t as impromptu as the postponement of this year which was announced just a few hours to the election.
