Police reunite woman with daughter 2 years after boyfriend’s family forcefully took her
A woman who nearly lost custody of her four-year-old child to her estranged boyfriend’s family has been reunited with her.
Police say the mother reported on December 5 that the baby’s father’s family forcefully took her away sometime in 2016 and swore she would never be allowed access to her again.
Police authorities disclosed that the little girl had been forcefully taken to Kaduna to live with the paternal grandmother.
By the time the mother (names withheld) notified the police of the “oppression”, she had been separated with the infant for two years.
The mother told authorities how every effort to see her baby was met with stiff resistance and threats.
Police operatives at the Complaints Unit said they were able to bring all the parties together after receiving the complaints.
“It was discovered that the little girl was more interested in being with her biological mother and not her grandmother,” the authorities said Thursday.
“Advise was also sought from relevant experts and it was decided that this 4-year-old girl be released to her biological mother considering the fact that her father has relocated from Nigeria.
“The mother was also discovered to be a responsible and working class woman.”
The elated woman with her baby visited police headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday to show appreciation for “helping her get justice.”
