Police nab suspected kidnapper disguising as mentally imbalanced in Ondo
A man who allegedly disguised himself as mentally imbalanced has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ondo.
Residents reportedly saw the man identified only as Dele acting funny around Isikan area of Akure on Monday.
An eyewitness said the man’s actions attracted the attention of people in the community who then alerted security operatives.
The NSCDC Commandant, Pedro Awili, said on Tuesday that Dele had been handed over to the police.
Pedro also said that when the suspect was arrested an alert of N1.5m entered his account. Dele allegedly grabbed the phone from the police and smashed it on the floor.
“The QRS team of the Command on October 15 arrested one Dele who was pretending as a madman at Isikan area of Akure with an ITEL phone,” Dele said.
“When our men arrested him and checked his mobile phone after some few seconds, he got a payment alert of N1.5 million into his account, immediately the alert entered, he forcefully collected the mobile phone and smashed it on the floor.
“We went to repair the mobile phone to know and ascertain the person that sent the money to him and the persons he is working for.”
