Photos: How “smog” covered parts of Lagos this morning
Lagos is increasingly becoming over-polluted.

“I woke this morning to see this and I decided to share it with you guys,” a citizen reporter in Shomolu, Lagos told Newsroom when she sent the following pictures in.

What’s smog?
Smog is a kind of air pollution, originally named for the mixture of smoke and fog in the air. Classic smog results from large amounts of coal burning in an area and is caused by a mixture of smoke and sulphur-dioxide.
In the 1950s a new type of smog, known as PhotochemicalSmog, was first described.
Smog can also contain other harmful components such as nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, sulphur dioxide and carbon monoxide. The colour of smog is determined by these suspended particles and is often brown or deep grey but can also be white.
Smog pose several health risks like Coughing and throat/chest irritation, Worsening asthma symptoms, Difficulty breathing and lung damage.
Well, no one reported any of these symptoms so our “smog” was probably a precursor to harmattan.
“Harmattan is supposed to be cold,” the woman who sent in the pictures told Newsroom.
“Why was is hot this morning?”
We’ve got no idea. Sowie.
