PHOTOS: One killed, shops looted and razed, as Oshodi thugs trade bullets, machetes and sticks

The violent activities of Oshodi hoodlums just claimed another life.
A suspected thug believed to be a member of one of the warring factions in that volatile part of Lagos State was reportedly gunned down on Wednesday, eyewitnesses told Newsroom.
The latest killing in Oshodi happened after factions battling for supremacy clashed on Wednesday.
Some of these violent groups are believed to enjoy strong political backing.

The current wahala started on Monday when rival thugs threatened to shoot each other to death. A source told Newsroom armed policemen had to come into the area to restore order.
“I saw policemen chasing the thugs about, shooting into the air,” the source said.
“The same thing happened on Tuesday. But things were different on Wednesday as most of the thugs were armed with guns, machetes, and all kinds of harmful objects.”

Around 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, some hoodlums were seen “intimidating themselves around Mafoluku Road, Ayo ni bus stop, Olaiya, and Eyinogun streets.”
“The thugs started shooting at one another,” our source said.
“The police also came this time around but the shooting did not stop until around 8:00 p.m.
“When the gunfight started, shop owners quickly locked their stores and residents locked themselves in their houses.”

“I was afraid. We later heard that one of the thugs was shot dead. Some shops were looted and burnt down. The hoodlums do that whenever they fight.”
Police are yet to confirm the killing, and the vandalism.
