Pastor caused confusion in my marriage by sleeping with my wife – Husband tells court

A couple has dragged each other before an Upper Area Court in Makurdi for dissolution of their 18-year-old marriage.

The husband, Tertsea Daagu said there had been breakdown in the union after his wife confessed that their church pastor had an affair with her.

Daagu told the court that the pastor of NKST Church, caused “confusion” in his marriage.

“I have never beaten my wife or accused her of adultery; it is my wife that admitted before our NKST Church Committee that she has committed adultery with a pastor of the church,” he said.

“I have not accused my wife of having an affair; but she has confessed to having an affair with the Reverend (name withheld).

“In 2007, she confessed to having an intimate affair with the pastor when the church committee took up the matter. I have the evidence with me written in Tiv language.

“Though the committee could not give an appropriate resolution, we appealed to the General Synod, where a resolution was passed.”

But Tertsea’s wife, Wandoo Daagu, accused him of beating and directing “unnecessary” accusations of infidelity at her.

Wandoo said she had no more love for the man she married in line with the Tiv Native Laws and Customs at Amua, Gaav, in Konshisha Local Government Area in 2000.

“We have three children; after nursing our last daughter, my husband started accusing me of being unfaithful,” she said.

“He kept attacking me and would beat me up at the slightest provocation.

“I reported this cruelty to his parents, but instead of intervening, they took sides with him.”

She added that he never bothered to visit her after she left his house in 2008.

“Since I left his house, my husband has never visited me or my parents to discuss our issue. He has no respect for my parents,” she said.

Wandoo urged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant her full access to their three children. The request was not opposed by Tertsea.

The Judge, Ms Adole Akintomide, has adjourned the case to December 14 for judgment.
