Only Two Genders, Drill More Oil, and 8 Other Things Trump Said in His Inaugural Address
Donald Trump has been inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, cementing his historic political comeback to the White House.
During his inauguration, which was held indoors due to severe cold and attended by politicians, including former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris, as well as technocrats like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos, President Trump outlined what to expect during his second stint in office.
Here are some of the major things he said.
“The Golden Age of America Begins Now”
Opening his inaugural address, Donald Trump declared, “The golden age of America begins now.”
Speaking with confidence, he marked the beginning of what he described as a transformative era. Promising to “very simply put America first,” Trump claimed that his recent election was “a mandate to reset betrayal,” vowing, “from this day, America’s decline is over.”
“I Was Saved by God to Make America Great Again”
Trump recounted his near-death experience during an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania last year.
“I was saved by God to make America great again,” he said, describing it as divine intervention to fulfill his mission of restoring the nation’s greatness.
“National Emergency on Southern Borders”
Immigration took center stage as Trump announced plans to declare a national emergency.
“All illegal entry will be immediately halted,” he said, adding that he would reinstate the “Remain in Mexico Policy,” a controversial measure requiring asylum seekers to stay in Mexico while their cases are processed.
“Drill, Baby, Drill”
Addressing America’s energy crisis, Trump announced his intent to reverse many of the policies implemented under Joe Biden.
“We have the largest amount of oil and gas, and we are going to use it. We will be a rich nation again, and we would use the liquid gold under our feet to do it,” he declared.
His remarks stood in stark contrast to Biden’s climate policies, which included halting new oil drilling along many coastlines and prioritizing renewable energy.
“Overhaul of Trade System”
Trump vowed to reform America’s trade policies, saying, “We will tax and tariff other countries to enrich our citizens.”
This move is aimed at reducing reliance on foreign imports and boosting domestic production, a hallmark of Trump’s economic agenda.
“Stop All Government Censorship”
Trump promised to restore freedom of speech by ending what he described as government interference in public discourse.
“Stop all government censorship to bring back freedom of speech in America,” he proclaimed, signaling a crackdown on regulatory oversight of social media platforms and other public communication channels.
“We Would Forge a Society That Is Race Blind and Merit Based”
The President vowed to create a society that emphasizes equality and opportunity, irrespective of race. His promise of a “race-blind and merit-based” society underscored his desire to unite a deeply divided nation.
“Only Two Genders Recognized in the U.S.”
Trump waded into the cultural debate on gender, declaring, “Henceforth, there are only two genders recognized in the U.S.; male and female.”
This statement reflects his administration’s stance on traditional definitions of gender identity.
“An Era of Revolution of Common Sense”
Describing his second term as a time of practical solutions, Trump promised “an era of revolution of common sense.” This was his way of signaling that his administration would prioritize pragmatic policies over ideological battles.
“My Legacy Would Be That of Peacemaker and Unifier”
Trump concluded his address by stating, “My legacy would be that of peacemaker and unifier.” He promised to bridge the divisions within America while maintaining strength on the global stage.
The President is expected to sign most of the executive orders hours after his inaugural speech.
