Ondo govt begins buyback of workers’ loans

Ondo state Government has concluded plans to buy back its workers’ loans.

This, it says, is part of efforts to cushion the effect of non-payments of salaries which was occasioned by the present economic situation in the country.

This was made known in a statement by the Committee on “Buyback of Workers’ Loan by Ondo State Government” and jointly signed by the representatives of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Dayo Adebiyi and Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Oyesanmi Ilesanmi.

The committee after its first meeting resolved to order for the details of all corporate, group or individual loans to be forwarded to the representatives of Unions on the Committee

“The two representatives of the labour side are to collect the names and phone numbers of Chairmen and Secretaries of all Public Service Unions whose members have taken corporate, group or individual loans.” The statement read.

The statement further read that the committee will, this week, formally write to all the affected banks to furnish it with details of the status of the loans of each worker, while the information from the banks will be verified by the affected workers afterwards.

The committee assured that it will meet with all the banks after the collation of all the documents from them.

Meanwhile, the committee plead for cooperation from the affected workers stressing that the success of the assignment will rest strongly on the cooperation and support from the affected workers and their respective Unions..
