Oluchi Tragedy: Buhari launches probe into death of UNILAG student
The President Buhari led federal government has launched a probe into the death of a University of Lagos (UNILAG) student who was electrocuted on the Akoka campus of the school.

Oluchi Anekwe died on Tuesday night after an electric cable, following a power surge, fell on her.
While students blamed the tragedy on the university of authorities, the school said the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) was to blame.
The federal government has now sent a technical team to UNILAG to investigate the cause of incessant power surge in the school.

The technical team, which already arrived Lagos, is led by Engr. Peter Ewesor of the Nigeria Electricity Management Services Limited (NEMSL).
“At the end of the exercise, the team is expected to find out what actually went wrong and which groups or individuals are culpable after which appropriate sanction will be forwarded to the regulator – Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC),” a power ministry spokesperson Mr. Timothy Oyedeji said in a statement in Abuja, Thursday.

“Furthermore, the report will also contain future mitigating measures that would prevent future occurrence of this kind of fatalities.”
The Permanent Secretary of Nigeria’s Power ministry, Ambassador Godknows Igali, expressed his regret at the unfortunate passing of Oluchi.
Oluchi’s death led to a massive protest that grounded all academic and social activities on Wednesday.
Normalcy, however, returned to the school on Thursday. UNILAG students will hold a rally for the deceased on Friday.
