Ogun APC Suspends Ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities

The Ogun State chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has indefinitely suspended former governor and serving senator, Gbenga Daniel, over allegations of anti-party activities, deepening speculation about internal party rifts and tensions with Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Daniel, who currently represents Ogun East in the Senate, was suspended alongside his loyalist, Kunle Folarin. The party’s State Working Committee (SWC) ratified the suspensions on Tuesday, following disciplinary proceedings initiated by their respective wards.

In a statement issued by Nuberu Olufemi, spokesperson for Ogun APC, the party explained that Ward 4 in Shagamu Local Government Area had set up a disciplinary committee to investigate “misconduct bordering on anti-party activities” allegedly committed by Senator Daniel. A similar committee was established by Ward 6 to probe Folarin’s conduct.

Both men were formally invited to appear before their respective disciplinary panels to defend themselves. According to Olufemi, neither responded to the summons, submitted a written defense, nor attended the hearings.

“Despite written invitations, both members failed to appear or provide any defense,” the statement read. “The committees proceeded to hear from available witnesses, review documentary evidence, and deliberate on the allegations in their absence.”

The party further accused Daniel and Folarin of attempting to interfere with the disciplinary process by allegedly pressuring other party members to withdraw petitions and discouraging cooperation with the investigating panels.

“In view of this development,” the statement continued, “the committees resolved to protect the integrity of the process and eliminate interference by suspending both members indefinitely, pending further investigation.”

The SWC’s ratification of the suspension is being positioned as a strong statement on internal discipline and the APC’s commitment to upholding its constitution.

While the party has not officially linked the move to wider political tensions, the suspension comes amid long-standing speculation about a power struggle between Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun. The recent decision by the Ogun State government to mark a hotel and residence linked to the senator for demolition has only intensified rumors of a growing feud between the two powerful figures.
