No Escape! Supreme Court affirms Rev King’s death sentence
General Overseer of the Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo, better known as Rev.King, will die by hanging.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria, on Friday, upheld the death sentence handed to the controversial pastor by the Lagos State High Court in 2007.
The court handed him the sentence having found him guilty of murder and attempted murder.
The controversial cleric had reportedly poured petrol on Uzoh and five others and set them on fire leading to the death of Uzoh and serious injuries to the others.
But Ezeugo disagreed with the ruling, so he challenged it before the Court of Appeal in Lagos.
“I at this moment, I rule that the prosecution effectively discharged the burden of proof on it. This appeal is devoid of any basis and accordingly fails.
“The judgment of the High Court is hereby affirmed, and the conviction imposed on the appellant, (which is death by hanging) is also affirmed,” Justice Fatimo Akinbami of the Court of Appeal ruled.
Dissatisfied still, Ezeugo turned to the Supreme Court to upturn the judgment.
The Supreme Court’s judgment was unanimous. All seven justices on the panel upheld the death sentence..
