NNPCL Plans to Transfer Warri, Kaduna Refineries to Private Operators

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) is on the lookout for reputable and reliable Operations and Maintenance (O&M) companies to manage and oversee the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC). This move aims to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of these crucial facilities.

The Kolmani River Well-II will be drilled by Ikenga Rig 101, a reputable Oil Services consortium, Messrs Etihad Oilfield Services/Drillog Petrodynamics Ltd., under a Turnkey Contract Agreement.

The announcement was made via a statement on Friday, August 30, through NNPC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.

The Warri Refinery, situated in Delta State and commissioned in 1978, is a sophisticated complex with a distillation capacity of 125,000 barrels per day (bpd). Alongside its refining capabilities, the facility includes a petrochemical plant that has been operational since 1988. This plant boasts production capacities of 13,000 metric tons annually (MTA) for polypropylene and 18,000 MTA for carbon black, serving markets in southern and southwestern Nigeria.

The Kaduna Refinery, which started operations in 1980, was designed to cater to the petroleum needs of Northern Nigeria. Initially, it had a capacity of 50,000 bpd, which was later expanded in 1983 to 100,000 bpd with the addition of a second crude train for lubricating oils. By 1986, the first crude train’s capacity was increased to 60,000 bpd, bringing the current total capacity to 110,000 bpd.
