NNPC Blames Fuel Scarcity On Rain and Thunder
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (NNPCL) has listed rain, thunderstorms and lightning as the causes of the recent fuel scarcity plaguing Nigeria.
NNPCL’s Vice President (Downstream), Dapo Segun, said this during a press conference on Tuesday, August 20, at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.
According to him, the effects of recent rainfalls, thunderstorms and lightning, are reasons Nigerians are experiencing long queues in fuel stations all over Nigeria.
Fuel prices in black markets all across Nigeria have now surged past over N1,000 per litre, with fuel stations selling for N950 thereabout.
While apologizing to Nigerians, Segun insisted that the severe waether conditions were hampering effective fuel dictribution across Nigeria.

“We apologise to Nigerians for the fuel queues. Many of the challenges we’re facing are outside our control, but we’re doing our best to address them.
“For instance, the recent rains have made the Estragos channel difficult to navigate due to siltation, which has significantly hindered our ability to transport petroleum products, especially PMS, across the country,” Segun stated.
He noted that fuel discharges in both onshore and from tankers have been suspended due to these challenges and that road access was also a nightmare.
Mr Segun, however, assured of the Corporations readiness to tackle these challenges and avail Nigerians of petroleum products.
